Getting Started
Motom is the first connected social commerce community that brings live TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube feeds into a one-stop social shop. You can discover where to buy fashion, beauty, and home décor styles seen across your social media feeds, discover creator/influencer looks you love, find your aesthetic, shop trending hashtags and products, and more.
As a creator, you can easily make all your TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube posts shoppable through a live feed of your content via Motom’s proprietary Social Deck and earn the highest commission rates. Everyone can earn on Motom when someone makes a purchase from a product that they tag on Motom either to their own posts or to someone else's.
Motom gives you tools so that you can personalize your own experience and explore more of what you want. Now it’s easier to shop social.
Download the iOS app or visit motom.me, then an easy registration process starts on Motom's homepage. This includes connecting your social accounts and answering a few quick questions so we can centralize your activity and customize your Motom experience.
No, all you need to do is register. All are welcome to join and earn 15% commission across 8,000+ brands and retailers. Being a part of the Motom creator community has other perks and special incentives, too. For questions about being a creator on Motom, please email us at collabs@motom.me.
Motom's referral program allows you and your creator friends to earn more together. When you refer a creator to Motom using the invite link found on your profile, you'll earn 20% on their sales commission for the first three months they're on the platform. (Don't worry, the 20% comes from us here at Motom and doesn't come out of the commission from the creator you referred.)
The more content you create on the Motom, the better your chances are to be featured on the For You page! Motom editorial gives preference to posts that have captions and are tagged, but if the look is straight fire, we may feature it anyways, and you might even see yourself in Motom’s content slider at the top of the home feed.
How-to Guides
Earning on Motom
When someone makes a purchase inspired by the products you've tagged to posts or added to your Storefront on Motom, you earn commission from thousands of brands and retailers including fan-favorite retailers like Urban Outfitters, ASOS, Sephora, Princess Polly, Shein, Nike, Girlfriend Collective, Ulta Beauty, Reformation, and more. You can tag products to your existing content on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, or to original posts on Motom like images, ThisOrThats, and LikeBoards.
If you're someone who loves finding the coolest clothes and products on TikTok and the 'gram but doesn't necessarily post your own content, you can still make money on Motom. People who promote others' content by reposting it to Motom or adding it to their LikeBoards can still earn a cut of the commission when their reposts drive sales.
You get paid 15% commission when a sale occurs that's associated with your Motom activity. Some merchants may even pay a couple cents simply when someone clicks on the products you've posted! When you earn commission, it is based on the entire value of the final purchase, not just the product you tagged to a post or added to a LikeBoard or your Storefront.
When you see the Piggy icon next to a product on Motom, it means that the product is covered by affiliate. When someone makes an eligible purchase from those products, the person whose post the product is associated with will earn 15% commission.
Shareable product links on Motom enable you to drive purchases of products from anywhere off the Motom platform and earn commission. Whenever you see the Piggy icon on your Motom content, you can grab a link and share it with your friends and followers via Instagram Stories, your link hub like Linktree, hoobee, or Beacons.ai, or even as your main link in bio if you're getting lots of questions about where to buy a product. When they buy, you'll earn the same commission that you would if they'd purchased through your Motom profile. It’s fast, easy and a great short cut for you to drive sales from anywhere.
Once you've got $25 in your Motom Bank, you can cash out your money using PayPal or wire it directly to your bank account. To get paid, you will need to update your payment information.
- Go to your Motom profile by tapping your profile photo in the upper right corner of the screen. You'll be directed to your profile page.
- Tap the Piggy icon or click here to go to your settings page.
- Enter your payment details, tax information, and submit.
- Voilá! You're all set.
For additional questions about payment on Motom, email money@motom.me.
When you earn money via product sales as a promoter or creator on Motom, those earnings will initially display as “pending” and will not be eligible for cash out until Motom has received payment from the individual retailer. Retailers typically wait between 30-90 days before paying any commissionable earnings to account for product returns or any other necessary corrections. Once Motom has been paid for a transaction by a retailer/affiliate network, the earnings will move from “pending” to your current cash-out balance.
We (and all companies working with creators who earn through their platform) are required by the IRS to report the annual income you receive from Motom via a 1099 form. This requires us to collect your tax information in a W-9 form before making our first payment to you. If you live outside of the United States, you will need to fill out a W-8 BEN form. You’ll find these forms during your payment set up process. If you have any questions, you can email money@motom.me for assistance.
Social Media Integration
When you register and connect your TikTok, Instagram and/or YouTube accounts to your Motom profile, your experience on Motom will be even better. Your most recent social posts will appear in the Social Deck within your profile and the content you see on Motom will be geared towards the people you follow and the type of content you interact with most. The best part? There’s no need to re-upload or double-post when creating content and tagging products on Motom, Motom does it all for you!
To connect your social media account(s) to your Motom profile, follow the steps below:
- Visit https://www.motom.me/me/settings/linked-accounts
- Click 'Connect' next to the social accounts you want to connect (we recommend connecting wherever you post content).
You can find people on Motom by using the search icon at the top of your screen. Motom has profiles for thousands of creators. If you can't find someone on Motom, you can invite them to join directly. You can also submit their name to us (help@motom.me) and, after a quick verification process, we can add a profile for them on your behalf. Even better, we'll let them know they are being asked for on Motom so they can claim their profile and start using Motom, too!
All the content you create on Motom can be shared to your social accounts, by email, and via text by clicking the 'share' button on the post itself. Here are other ways to share your Motom posts across all platforms:
Tap the "Share" button on the Motom post you want and then "Copy Link." Now that the post URL is copied, open your Stories on Instagram, select the 'link' option, and paste the URL. This is an easy and simple way to let your followers know the look is available to shop on your Motom. You can also put this in your link hub link Linktree or Beacons.ai.
TikTok
Add your Motom profile link directly into your link in bio or link hub. You can share the post links in captions, but TikTok will not make them clickable.
YouTube
Copy and paste your Motom profile link into the description box with a brief explanation ("Shop everything in this video on my Motom!").
By sharing your Motom on all platforms, you will directly increase your chances of inspiring purchases driven by your content.
Troubleshooting
If a link is going to the wrong product or store, we can help. Please email us at help@motom.me.
This could happen for a few reasons...
1. Your TikTok is private
Due to TikTok's privacy settings, we cannot populate your Social Deck with your TikTok posts. The only way to fill your Social Deck with TikToks is to make your TikTok profile public.
2. You haven't allowed Motom to read your TikTok videos
When you authenticate Motom on TikTok, you're given the option to 'Manage access,' which includes reading your public videos on TikTok. This must be on in order to populate your Social Deck. To fix the issue, please go to the Social Connections in your Motom Settings. Click 'Connected' to disconnect your TikTok and then click "Connect" to re-connect. When you get to the 'Manage access' page, it should look like this:
3. Your TikTok Settings on Motom are set to private
We allow all users to choose which of their socials appear on their Social Deck. If you want your TikTok to appear, and the above fixes didn't work, please check your privacy settings by clicking here.
It's possible that your privacy permissions on Instagram for Motom are restricted if your Social Deck is not pulling your Instagrams in.
To fix this, just:
- Visit https://www.instagram.com/accounts/manage_access/
- Remove Motom
- Return to your Motom Settings --> click 'Social Conections & Links' --> and re-connect Instagram.
When you see the following screen:
4. Make sure media is allowed so we can populate your Social Deck
TikTok may auto-connect the wrong account due to a unique setting on the TikTok platform. If you are accessing Motom through a browser (i.e. Safari or Chrome) and the proper account isn't connecting, it's likely because you're logged into that account on the browser (doesn't matter which TikTok you're logged in on the app). To solve, just:
- Go to https://www.tiktok.com on the browser you're using to log in to Motom. Click 'Not now' to opening the app so you can continue your experience on the browser.
- Access the profile you're logged into by clicking the user icon in the bottom-right of the screen.
- Once your profile is open, click the three-dots on the top right of the browser and log out.
- Then you can immediately go to your Motom Settings. Under 'Account Settings,' click 'Social Connections & Links' --> In the top, section, under Social Connections, click 'Connect' next to TikTok. You'll be prompted to log into the correct account at that point.
- When you click 'Connect' in Social Connections next to TikTok, you are prompted to "Manage Access," and can toggle between "Read your public videos on TikTok." If this is off, then your Social Deck cannot populate due to TikTok's privacy settings. Make sure you're allowing Motom to read your public videos.
